About Load Veil

A preloader that waits for the page rather than for a timer.

Most preloaders are an animation with a duration typed into a control. This one reads what the browser is doing: the document's own ready state, the fonts, and the images already on the page. The figure on screen is a real fraction of real work.

Two things a timer cannot do. There is a floor, so a page served from cache does not flash the veil for a fortieth of a second and leave a flicker behind. And there is a ceiling, so one stalled image can never hold a visitor behind a curtain: past it the veil lifts anyway and the page is there.

The counter only ever goes up. A percentage that drops reads as a broken page, so the shown figure eases toward the real one and never retreats, and it does not reach 100 until everything it waits for has arrived.

Lift it as a wipe, a split, or a fade. Under reduced motion it leaves without the animation.

Inside its own frame by default, so it is safe to drop on a canvas and see; one control makes it cover the viewport when you ship. Hold it at a fixed figure while you style it: the same control seeds the editor and the published page, so what you design is what a visitor gets.

Coverage, minimum and maximum wait, exit style and speed, counter, decimals, label, bar, radius, font and every colour are property controls.
