About Distributed Signals

Distributed Signals is a concise editorial website for an open access review in General and Comparative Endocrinology (2026) from the University of Manitoba and Texas A&M University. Connor of Kintsu Labs collaborated with authors J. Geoffrey Eales, Megan Copeland, and Duncan S. MacKenzie during the writing of the paper.

The site turns the review's central idea into a visual language: in salmonid fish, thyroid hormone signals are converted and regulated across many tissues. Custom graphics reference histological sections, layering slices of tissue with the signals that pass between them. A second graphic reduces those complex signals to geometric shapes and lines. Both are positioned around visual composition and to guide the eye through the text.

Transformation runs through the paper and the site alike, from the conversion of T4 to T3 to the transformation juvenile salmon undergo before migrating to sea. A plain-language summary, the DOI, and a direct link to the full paper give the public a second entry point into the research.
